Hello to the members and friends of Knightstone Neighbourhood Watch. I am Sergeant Phil Dolby of the Hockley neighbourhood Policing Team. I have been asked by mark for a few words about our past year, which I am only too pleased to do. We have had a successful year in many ways – but we accept there are always new challenges to deal with.

We have been able to secure an Anti-Social Behaviour Order against a local prolific offender which has been drawn up to help him to modify his behaviour. Where he has not done so, the order has been used to deal with this. We have also taken up a number of other strategies with other people where they appear to be intent on making life difficult for their neighbours and fellow community members. This has seen the use of a range of activities, such as Anti-Social Behaviour Contracts, the drugs raids, arrests, etc. We must also point out the very fruitful partnership we are enjoying through working with two key council departments – Housing and the Birmingham Anti-Social Behaviour Unit.

As a team, one of the highlights of our year was the street party that you organised. We certainly look forward to this becoming an annual event. I particularly enjoyed the bouncy castle and the drums!

I would like to thank all involved in the local Neighbourhood Watch scheme for the community minded spirit and hard work. We enjoy working with you and we know that together we will continue to deliver a safer neighbourhood for all to enjoy. If my team or I can help you in any way please find our contact details below.

Hello from the Soho Neighbourhood  Police Team.

My name is Police Sgt Alan Lawless, I am one of the two team leaders for your local Police team. The team has been formed for six months now all of the staff are     familiar with the issues that cause concern for the members of the    Knighstone Neighbourhood Watch.

Mark Jastrzebski your watch leader is in regular contact with myself and Police Sgt Tedstill about the

problems and successes that KNW have been involved in. It has been a good year again for the KNW which was evidenced by the party in the park event, the police team had a small input in the party and were very glad to be invited along. I am aware that local residents in the area have lost confidence in the local Police team. I share your concern and that is why Myself, Mark and my    managers have had many discussions on this matter, I have applied to       Inspector Davies, to have Knightstone + Capestone area of Brookfield ’s    Estate listed as a community priority for our local Police area.

It is important to try to concentrate our efforts into an area that require extra    support and resources. I am actively seeking ways to increase the patrols on the estate and welcome feedback from residents about their concerns. It is important to keep lines of communication open between the KNW and the team. I encourage local residents to continue to use the KNW as a vehicle to do this, as well as using the conventional means of contacting the Police team. The local Police team is determined to work with local residents and our community partners to find longer term solutions to the issues that cause   concern on the KNW area. POLICE ARREST BURGLAR DURING SOHO ACTION DAY

14 December 2010

Officers from the Soho neighbourhood team have today arrested a 17 year old man for a suspected burglary offence in the Hockley Hill area. Officers were patrolling the locality as part of today’s first ever ‘Soho Action Day’ – an 8 hour joint initiative launched by police, partner agencies and the local community.

More than 40 police officers flooded the Soho area as part of this initiative, with many of these specifically tasked with patrolling burglary ‘hotspots’. While patrolling in the Hockley area, officers were informed of a shed theft that had taken place along Hockley Hill. Within seconds, police had the entire area locked down and soon identified two suspects.

Upon seeing the unformed officers, both offenders made off down Hockley Hill. Following a brief foot chase, police apprehended one of the men while the other managed to escape. A 17 year old local suspect is currently helping police with their enquiries. Inspector Lloyd Davies commented, “The arrest of this man has been a real positive and highlights just how effective the first ever Soho Action Day has been. “We have had more than 40 officers patrolling the streets around Soho today and have received fantastic support from the Ladywood Local Delivery Group and other partners. “Hopefully local residents will have noticed our presence across Soho, and will feel reassure that we are working together with partners to tackle a wide variety of challenges.” Other actions from the Soho Action Day included:

• Over 40 police officers patrolling the area in high visibility uniform to offer reassurance to local residents.
• Police patrols will focus around burglary ‘hotspots’ to deter criminal activity and respond immediately to any reports of theft.
• Litter patrols by Birmingham City Council’s Environmental Health and Youth Services teams.
• Graffiti clean-ups by supervised criminals sentenced to community orders.
• Street drinkers offered help to quit by Aquarius.
• · A pro-laser police initiative will target speeding motorists in ‘hotspot’ areas that have been identified by local residents.
• · Fire safety advice will be given to shoppers by the fire service.
• · The Midnight Youth bus will be deployed this evening to offer supervised youth activities to local youngsters.
• ·Troublesome neighbours will be the focus for housing provider Midlands Heart and the Birmingham Anti-social Behaviour Unit.
• · Anti-social behaviour on the bus and Metro network will be tackled by West Midlands Police’s Safer Travel team and British Transport Police and untaxed vehicles will be removed by the DVLA.

· Crime reduction advice will be given to shoppers by Pcso’s.

Portacabin Project

Yet again the KNW as out done themselves, they have worked extremely hard to set up the community Portacabin in the park.

This is for all the local community partner’s and agencies to hold free community surgeries for the residents of the Brookfield area.

This is just another project to show all the country how the Neighbourhood watch can be regenerated for the 21st Century living.

If we can do it you can do it.

The Portacabin had its officially Grand opening on the 22nd December 2012 and our New West Midland Police Commissioner Bob Jones alongside Robert Wilkinson from Robert Wilkinson fun fair which is one of our local partners and one of our youngest watch member Miss Lily-Mai Jastrzebski.

Mr Mark Jastrzebski Watch Leader said, we have had a great day today shame about the rain which had a effect on the people who turned up for the Grotto. But never mind, the day was about the Portacabin and what the committee of the Knightstone Neighbourhood Watch has yet a again done for this community.

In the New Year we will have a notice Board placed by the cabin to tell the people of Brookfield when the local community partner’s and agencies will have their surgeries and hopefully help the residents of Brookfield.

I would like to thank Mr Bob Jones our New Police Commissioner for opening our Portacabin and for saying them few kind words about the KNW.

I would also like to thank Mr Robert Wilkinson for attending and for his kind words, also this Portacabin wouldn’t be possible with out our funders which are has follows;
